… design sustainably.

Elmar Sander Kommunikationsdesign was founded in 2008 by Elmar Sander as a freelancing Design Agency with a special emphasis for sustainable graphic design. Elmar Sander, who studied Sustainable Design in Cologne/Germany and graduated with distinction, is working now for five years on international layout design projects for customers like European Union founded SWITCH-Asia Programme and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Layout design for United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)

For the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Elmar Sander created the layout design for the publication “Guidelines for National Waste Management Strategies: Moving from Challenges to Opportunities” (112 pages). By using a logical and clear visual structure, implementing a visual guidance system and purposeful using of pictograms and images, the approach to the occasionally quite theoretical topics becomes more easily. The publication was printed and produced environmentally-friendly and published in English, French, and Spanish.

Corporate Design for European Union founded Switch-Asia

Elmar Sander Switch-Asia CI

The European Union founded Switch Asia Programme aims to switch and improve consumption and production issues in asia in matters of ecological, economic and social aspects. The logo draft visualizes this switch literally by turning the letter „i“. The formerly „i“ becomes an exclamation mark that stands for determined action and firmness.

Elmar Sander is working as freelancing Creative Director for the European Union founded Switch Asia programme for five years ( since 2008). The Switch Asia programme is funding and supporting sustainable projects in Asia with a total financial amount of about 150 Million Euro.

Corporate Design für Archway Communications

Archway660-440

Archway Communications provides intrernational assistance for NGOs and Institutes in the field of sustainability. Since the name Archway contains already a strong imagery, a further visual key would compete with the figurative name. Instead of that creates the initial “A” an stylised, dynamic archway that open the door for a way into an open-minded future.

Logo Design for Institute for Highway Research

Elmar Sander ifs Logo

A stilised road crossing, visualised only by road marks, represents the logo of the Institute for Highway Research (University of Siegen, Germany). The crossing symbolizes dialogue, exchange, come together and pooling of interests. And, of course, the fundamental of the Institutes’ topics: the street.

Carina Matzky and Mira Moroz took jewelry-like photographs of fruits and vegetables that are still eatable and beautiful although they are no more really fresh. Felix Moebus developed and designed a card game that elucidade children about healthy food. The card game was handed statewide to hundreds of elementary schools in Northrhine-Westphalia.

The “Pfandring” for bottles with refundable deposit

Elmar Sander Dozent AWB Paul Ketz Pfandring

Student:
Paul Ketz, 6. Semester
www.paulketz.de

Within a collaborative project the ecosign academy for sustainable design conducted with the Solid Waste Management Cologne (AWB), Paul Ketz developed and designed under supervision of Elmar Sander the so-called “Pfandring” for bottles with refundable deposit.

The “Pfandring” provides a solution for the challenge of discarded bottles with refundable deposit. For convenience, people dispose their empty bottles in trash cans altough they could redeem a pledge. Poorer people are searching through the trash cans – which is not only humiliating, but also dangerous due to infectious injections and shards.

Paul Ketz’ concept got not only awarded by the governmental “Bundespreis ecodesign” and other prizes and the media (see Center TV, WDR5, or Deutschlandfunk), but is also launched (or currently discussed to be launched) as a pilot scheme in several german cities.
